A Colossal Hand

A Colossal Hand is the solo project of John Woodruff, self-described as "suburban dad metal," which tells you most of what you need to know before you even hit play. The newest release, "Memory, The Mind's Basilisk," leans into themes of nostalgia and breaking yourself open to find peace, a heavier turn than the sparse, introspective "The Last Good Days" that came before it. A track also turned up on a benefit compilation for World Central Kitchen, so there's more range here than the goofy genre tag lets on.
